In the past, popular tradition has handed down the preparation of infusions with a strong taste through the use of herbs with a distinctly bitter flavour used for depurative, digestive, regenerative purposes for religious and health reasons.

From a secret recipe devised in the Benedictine Monastery, which stood atop Altavilla Monferrato, Amaro Forte is handed down, an authentic concentrate of that hortus simplicium, the ancient garden of simple medicines, where plants were once cultivated and then selected by the monks to prepare compounds and medicines. Liquorice, dandelion, cinchona and peppermint are among the most prominent notes.
